IMMIGRATION AND INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY
Business Immigration In Canada -The Profile of a potential business immigrant
The Federal Government of Canada welcomes experienced and wealthy international investors and entrepreneurs who are interested to take up residence and invest in Canada. This has made Canada a multicultural community with a strong and prosperous economy.
An individual interested to apply for immigration to Canada can do so under one of the following two options. Once his application is approved he and his immediate family will be issued a visa and as landed immigrants can live and work in Canada. He and his family must remain in Canada for about three years before they can register as Canadian citizens and be entitled to a Canadian passport. Exemptions may apply in cases where a Canadian employer requires the individual to travel or be temporarily stationed overseas. Business immigrants are selected based on their ability to become economically established in Canada. The detailed requirements of each program are as follows.
INVESTORS
The Immigrant Investor Program (IIP) seeks to attract experienced business people and their capital to Canada. These applicants must demonstrate business experience and a legally obtained minimum net worth of CAN $800,000, and must make an investment of CAN $400,000 under the Federal Business Investor Program. This investment will be placed with the government of Canada and remain in that program interest free for a period of five years. This amount can be paid directly by the investor in cash or through a bank loan. The investor is not required to own or manage a business in Canada. Most investors choose the invest a great portion of the $400,000 by purchasing real estate and use the remaining portion to finance a bank loan that meets the requirements of the Immigration Fund.
Cosmos Pacific has concluded arrangements with the National Bank of Canada whereby qualified applicants can receive from the Bank a loan for the required amount of $400,000. Details of finance fees are available with Cosmos Pacific at imm@cpiconsult.com.
ENTREPRENEURS
The Entrepreneur Program seeks to attract experienced business people who will own and actively manage businesses in Canada that contribute to the economy and create jobs. Entrepreneurs must demonstrate business experience and a minimum legally obtained net worth of CAN $300,000. Such undertaking will require business experience at a managerial level, a feasibility study on the economic viability of the proposed business activity and investment of about $500,000 and reside in Canada as an active entrepreneur. Cosmos Pacific can assist the applicant in the preparation of the feasibility study. Cosmos Pacific will facilitate the application process using the services of recognized law firms established in Canada. The Firms are: WGM Law Firm and the Boughton Law Corporation.
